To learn best, do. Nothing beats hands-on learning when you want to retain information. It engages not only your sensory and cognitive brain, but also the parts used for motor output—and the more of the brain is engaged, the greater the chances of recalling the information later. Doing may mean many things: rehearsing things aloud, writing them out, or practising skills over and over—overtly or in your imagination.
